The Opportunity

Based in Austin, this immunity tonic brand was built by a founder as fierce as her formula. Nicole Deninger is a military veteran and jiu-jitsu force who launched the product at farmers markets selling her raw, organic apple cider vinegar tonics and immunity shots.
They were potent: antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, energy-boosting, blood-sugar-balancing, and unapologetically strong. And at the bottom of every bottle sat “the mother”—the living culture from fermentation—cloudy, powerful, and packed with benefits.
What truly set them apart was time. Their tonics were brewed through a six-week steeping process—slow, intentional, and deeply traditional. They needed a name that honored the grit, the process, and the personality behind it.

The Name

The brief was clear: organic, raw, pure health tonics that give your body a fighting chance. The personality? Straight-shooting. High-energy. Badass. We explored themes of time-honored remedies, the symbolic power of “the mother,” and the concept of tough love. Because that’s what these shots were—tough love for your immune system. The breakthrough came when everything converged: the literal “mother” in the bottle, Nicole’s unmatched strength, and the fact that you had to be a little tough to take the shot given its fiery flavor. Tough Mother® was born. From there, we named their proprietary six-week brewing method Steept®—a distinctive product name that elevated the steeping process into intellectual property.

Yep, we named it. And we also branded it.

Our Favorite Part

Tough Mother wasn’t just a name we named—it became an illustrated icon of a jiu-jitsu mom wielding a fighting spoon which brought the brand to life with humor and authority. Proving that sometimes the strongest brands are also the most personal.
